My Approach

My name is Danielle Logan and I am a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over 10 years of experience providing individual therapy, including over 4 years fully remote therapy to adults. After completing my BA in Sociology at UCSD, I started working with foster youth, which inspired me to become a therapist. My entire therapeutic career has been trauma focused and I completed an EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Basic Training in Nov 2022 with the EMDR Center of Southern California. I have worked with clients from various backgrounds including but not limited to transitional aged youth, adults, individuals with history of abuse and/or trauma, LGBTQ+, African American, Native American, Hispanic, and Caucasian. I specialize in "Big T" trauma, childhood trauma and abuse, sexual trauma, and complex trauma from neglect or abusive relationships. I have found that individuals that struggle with anxiety and/or depression often have unprocessed distressing or traumatic experiences that make them believe negative beliefs that they can’t move past. I primarily utilize evidenced based approaches including but not limited to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR Therapy to increase your tools to manage your distress, explore your values, identify barriers that are preventing you from living in line with those values, identify actions to move towards your values, and reprocess distressing and traumatic experiences to improve your quality of life.

My therapeutic approach is more relational, but also structured when facilitating EMDR. During our intake session we will explore what brought you to therapy and what you want from therapy and create meaningful, attainable goals. My clients often improve their ability to deal with stress within the first month and continue to improve their quality of life throughout treatment.

The number of sessions vary from client to client. If you are interested in doing EMDR, we will spend at least two sessions after intake to strengthen and/or increase your coping tools/strategies to ensure that you have the tools and distress tolerance to reprocess distressing or traumatic experiences without safety concerns. In some rare cases, a client can reprocess a distressing or traumatic experience (target) in just one 50 minute EMDR session. However, it is more common to need two or three 50 minute EMDR sessions to clear a target. The more complex the trauma, the longer it will take and could take several sessions to clear complex experiences/trauma.

I generally use https://www.bilateralstimulation.io/ for bilateral stimulation for EMDR sessions which provides visual and audio options. I will also teach you how to do bilateral tapping. We will do at least one EMDR exercise before we start reprocessing sessions so that you can try out the different bilateral stimulation types and see what works best for you.

I have learned that therapy is the most effective when I allow my clients to determine our path and pace of therapy. Some clients want a lot of tools to manage their anxiety, some just want a professional to verbally process with, some need a lot of time to feel comfortable and safe enough to address their trauma, while others want to dive in to EMDR reprocessing as soon as possible. As long as there are no safety concerns, I am happy to go as fast or as slow as you're comfortable with and support you on the path that works best for you.
